But, don’t just take our word for it…
It’s one thing for DSM to say it is a leader in sustainability and innovation. It’s quite another when the outside world agrees and so we’re delighted when these efforts, either as a company with our brand promise, Bright Science. Brighter Living™., or for an individual product or solution, are recognized by the outside world. DSM tops Dutch Webranking for the first time
In KWD Webranking’s 2011-2012 annual survey of 950 corporate websites in 40 countries, including the 27 largest companies by market cap in the Netherlands, DSM tops the list of AEX-listed companies for the first time. According to KWD, DSM’s website scored particularly highly for the insight it provides into the company’s growth factors, financial targets and social responsibility endeavors. More>
DSM’s re-branding program recognized
On 22 March 2012 at the Transform Awards 2012, a European award recognizing excellence in rebranding, DSM won gold in the ‘Internal Communication of a Rebrand’ category. The judging panel particularly applauded the good combination of strategy and creativity with which the DSM brand was launched with global cinema events and a movie. DSM wins De Kristal 2011 sustainability award
DSM has been awarded De Kristal 2011, a prestigious Dutch prize for the most transparent sustainability report. The award was presented to DSM on 21 November, after DSM was ranked in first place in a transparency benchmark survey carried out by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation. DSM's website best for financial communication
On 24 October 2011 ‘het Financieele Dagblad’, the Dutch newspaper focused on economics and business, announced that DSM is number one in online financial communication of all the companies listed on the Euronext Stock Exchange Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The judges noted DSM’s innovative use of webcasts, mobile websites and social media to share financial information.
‘Bright Now’ wins second award
On 13 October 2011 at the annual Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards, an international festival for corporate films and TV documentaries, DSM’s movie, ‘Bright Now’, the story behind DSM’s Bright Science. Brighter Living™ brand, received its second award in as many weeks. The movie, made together with Group.IE, won first prize in the Integrated Communication category. DSM's CEO receives Leaders of Change award
During the Global Conference for Social Change at the United Nations in New York on 6 October 2011, DSM's CEO Feike Sijbesma was awarded the Leaders of Change award in recognition of his visionary and inspirational leadership. According to the Foundation of Social Change, Feike exemplifies how leadership, creativity and innovation can engage in initiatives that solve social problems.
DSM's brand movie wins Image Film award
At the European Digital Communication Awards ceremony held on 30 September 2011, DSM’s movie, ‘Bright Now’, the story behind DSM’s Bright Science. Brighter Living™ brand, won first prize in the ‘Image Film’ category. According to the jury, ‘Bright Now’, which was made together with Group.IE, 'with its innovation and narrative power, its use of images and music, beat the other entrants with its original content and thematic approach.' Top ranking in Dow Jones Sustainability World Index 2011
On 8 September 2011, the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index ranked DSM No. 1 in the chemical industry sector. This is the third consecutive year that DSM has held this top position in worldwide sustainability and the sixth time in total since 2004. In 2007 and 2008, the two years when we weren’t ranked number one, we were still among the leaders in the sector. More>
DSM in Top 10 of Patent Board's Scorecard for Chemical Industry
In June 2011 the Patent Board, a leading independent provider of best practice research, tools and metrics for patent analysis and intellectual property investment, ranked DSM the 9th most innovative company in the Chemical Industry (up from its previous ranking of 38th out of 167). The Patent Board tracks and analyzes innovation, movement and the business value of patent assets on a global basis.
CEO receives George Washington Carver Award
In May 2011 DSM CEO Feike Sijbesma received the prestigious George Washington Carver Award for Innovation in Industrial Biotechnology in recognition of his outstanding contribution and vision to the development and innovation in industrial biotechnology. More>

On 8 February 2011 DSM Pharmaceutical Products received the Profiles in Sustainability Award in the category of 'Product, Process and Green Innovations' for its corporate commitment and ongoing innovations in pharmaceutical manufacturing for the sustainable and cost-effective production of active pharmaceutical ingredients and intermediates. CEO receives United Nations 2010 Humanitarian of the Year Award
On 21October 2010 DSM CEO Feike Sijbesma received the 2010 Humanitarian of the Year Award from the United Nations Association of New York. He won the award for his outstanding commitment to corporate social responsibility and for DSM’s partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme. More>
World Business and Development Award
On 22 September 2010 DSM received a World Business and Development Award for our contribution towards achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). We were honored for our innovative and targeted solutions specifically designed to meet the nutritional requirements of those in the developing world. More>
DSM achieves Cradle-to-Cradle certification
Five of DSM Engineering Plastics’ performance materials were awarded Cradle to Cradle® certification in July 2010. The Cradle to Cradle® concept aims to eliminate waste entirely by circulating safe and ecologically sound materials within closed loop systems of continuous re-use. Certification was provided by the sustainable design firm McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry. More>
Robert Kirschbaum awarded Giulio Natta Award 2010
Robert Kirschbaum was awarded the Giulio Natta Award 2010 on May 15, 2010 in Italy. Robert, who is Vice President Open Innovation at DSM, was recognized for his pioneering work in shaping DSM’s Open Innovation approach as well as for his role in the advancement of two of DSM’s most successful performance materials. DSM Desotech earns RC14001 Chemical Industry Environmental Recognition
In March 2010 DSM Desotech was awarded an RC14001 Environmental Management System Certificate. DSM Desotech is the global UV-curable materials leader and has demonstrated the effective implementation of an environmental management system that satisfies the new chemical industry standard. More>
Profiles in Sustainability Award
In February 2010 DSM Pharmaceutical Products received a Profiles in Sustainability Award from United Business Media and ICIS Chemical Business. We received the award for our process-intensification activities, such as micro reactor technology and our ‘green chemistry toolbox’ for the sustainable, cost-effective production of active pharmaceutical ingredients. During the In-cosmetics exhibition in April 2011 DSM Nutritional Products won the third prize with TILAMAR® Fix A1000 in the functional raw materials category. TILAMAR® Fix A1000 is a styling polymer for extra strong hold with natural feel. Its uniqueness, particularly for aerosol applications, is based on exceptional and proprietary monomer composition. PureActives™ among the top ten green products of 2010
The Chinese Business Watch Magazine ranked DSM’s PureActives™, a range of high-quality semi-synthetic penicillin and semi-synthetic cephalosporins, among the top ten green products of 2010. Readers of the magazine voted DSM China as one of the country’s top 50 green companies.
DSM's Fruitflow® wins Health Ingredients Excellence Award
DSM Nutritional Products’ Fruitflow® received the Health Ingredients Excellence Award on 16 November 2010. Fruitflow® was crowned ‘best Heart Health innovation’ and ‘most innovative ingredient of the year’, and is the only ingredient to date with an approved health claim from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). European Outsourcing Award for carbon footprint reducing technology
On 6 October 2010 DSM Pharmaceutical Products received the European Outsourcing Award for our submission ‘Achieving substantial carbon dioxide footprint reduction for the scale up of a drug intermediate’. DSM applied InnoSyn™ route scouting services in a new process that shortened cycle times and reduced the carbon footprint by over 50 percent. More>
RONOZYME® ProAct receives INNOV’SPACE award
DSM Nutritional Products was presented with the 2010 INNOV’SPACE award at the SPACE 2010 livestock trade fair in September. The award was given for RONOZYME® ProAct, an innovative feed enzyme that reduces feed costs by maximizing protein use and improving the nutritional value of broiler feed. It also increases the digestibility of proteins, which reduces the environmental impact of animal production. More>
Open innovation collaboration wins Frost & Sullivan 2010 Global Technology Innovation Award
In an open innovation collaboration DSM worked together with biotechnology company Isobionics on the development and production of BioValencene™, an aroma substance for the food, beverage, flavor and fragrance industry produced using biotechnology that earned Isobionics the Frost & Sullivan 2010 Global Technology Innovation Award in Food Ingredients.
Validase® contributes to Chinese Favourite Maternal and Health Care Product Award 2010
DSM’s Validase® contributed to the Shanghai Changrun Trading Co. Ltd’s Aibo Milk-mate winning the Chinese Favourite Maternal and Health Care Product Award 2010. Aibo Milk-mate, a new generation oral lactase product developed through a combination of DSM’s lactase expertise and patented technologies from Changrun, is designed to relieve the common symptoms of lactose intolerance experienced by many Chinese people.
PreventASe® wins Frost & Sullivan Product Differentiation Award
DSM Food Specialties won the 2010 Frost & Sullivan award for Product Differentiation Excellence for PreventASe®, a unique enzyme preparation that decreases the levels of acrylamide in food. PreventASe® was recognized as a best-in-class solution for bread, biscuits and extruded snacks, where it reduces acrylamide by as much as 90%.
Palapreg® ECO receives first prize in Frost & Sullivan’s New Product Innovation Award
DSM’s bio-based composite resin Palapreg® ECO received first prize in Frost & Sullivan’s New Product Innovation Award in the Automotive Industry for responding to the key industry challenge in reducing the harmful impact of fossil-based raw materials to the environment. Palapreg® ECO also received first prize for innovation in the category Raw Materials awarded by the China Composites Expo, Beijing.
Delvozyme® wins Ringier Technology Innovation Award
In June of 2010, DSM Food Specialties was awarded the 2010 Ringier Technology Innovation prize for Delvozyme®, an egg white lysozyme-based cheese enzyme solution. At a ceremony in Shanghai, China, Delvozyme® was commended for its user-friendliness, technical excellence and outstanding contribution to quality and protection in the Chinese cheese industry. More>
Stanyl® CR wins 2010 Ringier Technology Innovation Award
Stanyl® CR, DSM’s halogen-free, flame-retardant Stanyl® grade for the electronics industry, won a 2010 Ringier Technology Innovation Award in the Plastics Raw Materials and Auxiliary Materials category.
DSM milk testing kit wins award for Excellent Solution in Food Safety
Delvotest®, DSM Food Specialties’ antibiotic residue testing kit, claimed the 2009 award for ‘Excellent Solution in Food Safety’ during SIAL China 2010. Judges highlighted Delvotest®’s contribution to the crucial issue of food safety, and commended its role in maximizing quality and minimizing milk loss.
Cosmetics ingredient SYN®-HYCAN wins Innovation BSB Prize
In April 2010, DSM Nutritional Products won third place in the BSB European Innovation Prize for Cosmetics 2010. Their product SYN®-HYCAN was entered in the naturals/actives category. SYN®-HYCAN combines two modes of action to reduce wrinkle formation and skin sagging, the most visible signs of aging. More>
