Wherever glass meets air, about 4% of the light hitting the glass at a perpendicular angle is reflected. And that percentage rises steeply as the light’s angle of incidence increases. Obviously, for solar energy systems, reflected light is wasted light! DSM’s AR coating minimizes reflection to deliver a record-breaking performance in terms of light transmission. In fact, it enables a power gain over uncoated modules of around 3% in flash tests. And thanks to its angular effect, it leads to an additional light gain of more than 4% compared to the daily cycle of systems in the field.

The durability of solar glass coated with DSM AR coatings has been extensively evaluated – both in the lab and in running field tests – by leading independent research institutes, such as Fraunhofer, TUV and PI Berlin. It has been subjected to accelerated Damp Heat tests, Humidity Freeze tests and Thermal Cycling tests (in accordance with IEC 61215), as well as to extended tests way beyond the standard. Our AR coating surpassed all test criteria. Thanks to this outstanding durability, you can be sure of a long-lasting and reliable harvest of power gain over the lifetime of your module.
The unique closed surface of our AR coating also prevents dirt and residue of all kinds from penetrating or adhering to the surface. This makes cleaning the modules during assembly and installation much easier compared to other anti-reflective-coated glass. Fingerprints, tape, rubber smudges – even silicone glue (if attended to relatively quickly) – can all be removed with very little effort.
