The World Resources Institute (WRI) has honored DSM CEO Feike Sijbesma at its 2017 Courage to Lead dinner in New York City, recognizing his bold leadership to solve global challenges.

According to WRI our CEO has demonstrated leadership that is shaping our organization and influencing his peers. Darren Walker, CEO of Ford Foundation, was also recognized at the event.

We are very proud to be honoring these two remarkable individuals, Darren and Feike, who are pushing the envelope in their respective fields. We hope that shining a light on their achievements will inspire more people to step forward with courageous leadership that benefits people and the planet,” said James A. Harmon, Board Chairman, WRI.

WRI is a global research organization, founded in 1982, with a mission to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth’s environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations.

According to WRI, Feike has been an outspoken champion of reimagining the economic system and corporate responsibility to go beyond profit and incorporate people and planet in value creation. WRI said his leadership has been evident in pushing carbon pricing to the top of the international agenda and also highlighted DSM’s partnership with the World Food Programme. “DSM is known to be an exemplar of the company’s informal internal motto: “Do Something Meaningful”, WRI said.

WRI’s recognition for DSM comes on the heels of our number two position in Fortune Magazine’s third annual Change the World list, recognizing companies that have had a positive social impact through activities that are part of their core business strategy. DSM was also recognized by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for our consistent and longstanding commitment to sustainability, having been named among the global leaders for the past 14 years and holding the number one position in the sector seven times.

In his acceptance speech, Feike also congratulated and thanked his DSM colleagues. “This honor is a recognition for all of us at DSM. We are all committed to achieving a brighter future for people today and generations to come.”
