We raised the bar and are now aiming for 40-45% GHG efficiency improvement by 2025. Last year, we took a significant step towards that goal by improving our efficiency by 3%. We also reduced our total energy use by 19% between 2010 and 2015.
Since waste reduction forms an integral part of the Circular Economy, we aim to recycle 80-90% of our non-hazardous waste by 2020. We already met this target in 2017, and recycled 84% of our waste. We also reduced our landfilling of non-hazardous waste by 67% between 2010 and 2015.
Renewable sourcing is important for the Circular Economy and for DSM. Therefore, 15.4% of our raw materials and 21% of our electricity came from renewable sources in 2017. We aim to renewably generate 50% of our electricity by 2025.
A big step towards this target was taken in 2016 with DSM’s participation in Windpark Krammer. This new wind farm was established as a public-private partnership with AkzoNobel, Google, Philips and two citizen-led cooperatives and produces enough energy to supply more than 100,000 households with green electricity. Together with its three corporate partners, DSM will be sourcing 350,000,000 kWh a year from Windpark Krammer once it becomes operational in 2019.
