Opening doors with an open culture

Opportunities abound in health, nutrition and materials, and they are simply too vast for us to tackle alone. So we don’t.

DSM has changed dramatically. For years, we had a fairly ‘closed’ culture in which our organizational outlook was that we could – and should – do it all ourselves. But as the world changed, we began to change too. We opened up, acquiring existing companies that fitted our strategy, rather than trying to reinvent the wheel. And now we’ve changed the way we think and behave.

Open door, open mind

Today, we have a strong, open culture based firmly on partnership and collaboration. We bounce ideas off each other, right across the business.  We believe in ‘happy coincidences.’ We work in dozens of different ways with people, companies and organizations outside of DSM. And in everything from science and engineering to marketing and health and safety, we increasingly partner with suppliers, customers, institutions and even competitors to achieve our goals.

From tomatoes to apples

What could partnership and collaboration mean to you at DSM? Well, it might mean working with a hip biotech firm such as one of our partners in the UK that makes tomato-based health products. Or with one of the world’s most iconic brands. Our approach is summed up by our Engineering Plastics business which runs an open innovation website where anyone can submit ideas, find out where DSM is looking for help, or simply…explore.

It’s all about forging relationships. And if relationships are your thing, DSM could be too.
