Organization

DSM has a decentralized organizational structure built around business groups that are empowered to carry out all business functions. This structure ensures a flexible, efficient and fast response to market changes. At the corporate level, a number of staff departments support the Managing Board of Directors and business groups.

In 2000, people still saw DSM as predominantly a ‘chemical’ company. But since then we have transformed ourselves into a fully-fledged Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company, and now we are entering a new era in which we will grow ‘the new DSM’.

At DSM, we are fully leveraging our unique capabilities in Life Sciences and Materials Sciences to address unmet needs resulting from three key global trends: Global Shifts, Climate & Energy and |Health & Wellness.

To ensure that this will generate maximum sustainable and profitable growth for ‘the new DSM’, we are using four mutually-reinforcing growth drivers: High Growth Economies, Innovation, Sustainability and Acquisitions & Partnerships.

Innovation and sustainability

We believe that innovation goes hand in hand with sustainability, so we’re embedding sustainability in all of our business activities. Discover how our commitment to sustainability and innovation is helping to create a better world.

Sustainability is our core value

We manage our business with a focus on our core value: sustainability. This means that, among other things, we aim to continuously improve the ecological footprint of not only our own operations but our entire value chain. To do this, we focus on providing what we call ECO+ solutions to create more value with less environmental impact. By 2015, our ECO+ products will make up over 80% of our innovation pipeline and towards 50% of our total net sales.

Innovation is integral to our growth

DSM innovations and products are designed to meet global needs, and they are intended to make a lasting difference to the world in which we live. Our commitment to innovation generated € 1 billion in additional sales in 2010. By 2015, we aim for our total sales from innovation to increase from 12% to 20%.
