Our associations and networks, as well as our contacts with the United Nations and NGOs, are key in our engagement with stakeholders. We maintain an ongoing dialogue with people from all of these areas, and our executives and Managing Board members hold official positions in various organizations.

Trade associations and networks:

ACS Green Chemistry Institute® Pharmaceutical Roundtable The ACS Green Chemistry Institute® Pharmaceutical Roundtable is a partnership between the American Chemical Society’s Green Chemistry Institute and member pharmaceutical companies. It is dedicated to the integration of green chemistry and green engineering in the global pharmaceutical industry. DSM Pharmaceutical Products is a member.

Bio (US) (Biotechnology Industry Organization) Bio (US) is an American trade association for the biotechnology industry. Hugh C. Welsh, President DSM North America is a member of the Industrial & Environmental Section Governing Board.

CBCSD (China Business Council on Sustainable Development) The CBCSD is made up of Chinese and international companies, the government and local communities, working together to foster sustainable development. Wei-Ming Jiang, President of DSM China, is a board member of the CBCSD.

CEFIC (European Association of Chemical Companies) CEFIC is an organization that represents the interests of the chemical industry in Europe. Feike Sijbesma, Chairman of the DSM Managing Board, is a board member of CEFIC.

The Energy Efficiency Benchmarking Covenant This is a covenant that energy-intensive companies in the Netherlands have signed with the Dutch Ministries of Economic Affairs and the Environment. Under the covenant, these companies are striving to rank among the global front runners (the top 10%) in energy efficiency, thereby contributing to the effective implementation of the Kyoto Protocol.

EuropaBio (European Biotechnology Association) EuropaBio concentrates mainly on representing the interests of its members in Europe, but also represents its members in transatlantic and worldwide forums. Stephan B. Tanda, member of DSM's Managing Board, is Chair of EuropaBio.

FEFANA Asbl FEFANA Asbl is the EU Association of Specialty Feed Ingredients and their Mixtures. The association is the interface between the Specialty Feed Ingredients industry and European Union authorities, including those of Member States, and aims to promote, safeguard and defend the common and general interests of the industry.

NIABA (The Netherlands Biotechnology Association) The NIABA lobbies for companies and organizations involved in developing and/or using biotechnology. Its focus is primarily on the Netherlands, but it is also an active member of EuropaBio, the European umbrella organization for the biotechnology sector.

The Product Carbon Footprint Pilot Project Germany The Product Carbon Footprint Pilot Project Germany was initiated by Öko-Institut (Institute for Applied Ecology), the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), the Berlin-based think/do tank THEMA1 and the WWF. The project aims at providing companies with practical joint experiences in assessing and communicating Product Carbon Footprints. The PCF Pilot Project also acts as a forum for discussion on how to best provide relevant information regarding the climate impact of products and consumer decisions.

Rx-360 Rx-360 is a consortium being developed by volunteers from the Pharmaceutical and Biotech industry.  The consortium’s purpose is to enhance the security of the pharmaceutical supply chain and to assure the quality and authenticity of the products moving through the chain. Rx-360 is a non-profit organization with the mission to create and monitor a global quality system that meets the expectations of industry and regulators that assures patient safety by guaranteeing product quality and authenticity throughout the supply chain.

SGCI (Swiss Society of Chemical Industries) The SGCI is the umbrella organization of the chemical and pharmaceutical industry across the whole of Switzerland. Its 200 member companies are active mainly in the research, development, production or sale of pharmaceutical specialties, vitamins, industrial specialty chemicals, plant protection products as well as aromas and fragrances. Stephan B. Tanda, member of the DSM Managing Board, is a board member of the SGCI.

The Sustainability Consortium The Sustainability Consortium is a global platform that drives scientific research and collaboration to develop global science-based measurement and reporting systems and standards for more sustainable products and processes. Members across industry sectors represent both consumer and business markets.

VBDO (Dutch Association of Investors for Sustainable Development) The VBDO is the only association of shareholders and investors in the Netherlands that focuses specifically on sustainability.

VNCI (Association of the Dutch Chemical Industry) The VNCI represents the interests of the chemical industry in the Netherlands.

VNO-NCW (the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers) The VNO-NCW represents the common interests of Dutch industry at national and international levels. Jos Schneiders, President DSM Nederland BV, is a member of the Board.

WBCSD (World Business Council on Sustainable Development) The WBCSD is a worldwide organization for the promotion of sustainable development.

The United Nations:

United Nation’s Global Compact DSM is a signatory to the United Nations' Global Compact. The Global Compact is an international initiative that brings companies together with UN agencies, labor and civil society organizations to support universal environmental and social principles. It seeks to promote responsible corporate citizenship so that business can be part of the solution to the challenges of globalization.

WFP (World Food Programme) DSM is an official partner of the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP). The WFP is the largest provider of food aid to the world’s hungry.
