Building sustainable supply chains
We operate in a complex world of suppliers, customers, and contractors. Therefore, in our efforts to improve our environmental performance we focus not just on our own activities but on the entire value chain in which we operate. We involve everyone we work with.
People, planet and profit
The more we do to improve the Triple-P Performance in the value chains in which we operate, the bigger an impact we can have on creating a better future for everyone. This is why we work closely with our suppliers .
Take the raw materials we use. In 2009 and 2010, we introduced several bio-based raw materials within our Materials Sciences cluster. These helped cut greenhouse-gas emissions at our suppliers, and also reduced our suppliers’ use of hazardous chemicals like styrene.
We’re applying the same kind of bright thinking to our electricity use, collaborating with suppliers to further reduce our emissions footprint. We switch to higher-efficiency power plants, we combine heat and power generation, and of course, we use renewable sources.
We expect a lot from our suppliers:
- Business commitment: We require a certain level of strategic alignment, resource allocation and innovation, as well as a commitment to price and cost reduction.
- Security of supply: We measure whether suppliers deliver on time and have supply assurance systems in place.
- Sustainability: We look for compliance with our Supplier Code of Conduct, which is based on the DSM Code of Business Conduct
- Quality assurance: We examine the quality performance of products and services, the documentation supplied, and the response to non-performance.
Sustainable partnerships
When we select or review a partner, we also look at their track record on safety, health and environmental management and sustainable development. Then we work with them to continuously improve their – and therefore our – performance.
