Bright thinking, great results

We continually measure and review the effectiveness and impact of our sustainability policies and programs – including our Global Supplier Sustainability Program.

Compliance and program targets

At year-end, the DSM Code of Conduct covered 91% of our supplier base. We also beat our target by conducting more than 60 supplier self-assessment questionnaires and 25 sustainability supplier audits. No contracts had to be terminated and no suppliers were disqualified.

We also continued to apply bright thinking to electricity use by working with suppliers to further reduce our emissions footprint. Examples include switching to higher-efficiency power plants, combined heat and power generation, and the use of renewable sources.

In 2010, approximately 7% of the electricity we consumed came from renewable energy sources such as wind, biogas and hydropower. Approximately 30% came from combined heat and power generation.

We’re also asking our raw materials suppliers to reduce their emissions by more than 20% by 2020. This way, they can help us achieve our goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in our value chains.
