We have the responsibility to our customers, shareholders, business partners,
employees and local communities, as well as the world around us, to conduct
our business in an ethical, accountable and sustainable manner.
In our ongoing search for cleaner, cheaper and more efficient methods of
production we have become one of the world’s leading exponents of industrial
(‘white’) biotechnology, the process in which materials and chemicals are
produced with the aid of micro-organisms and enzymes.
We are deeply committed to creating a safe and healthy working environment and
minimizing any nuisance our sites may cause to their neighbors. We are able to
keep close track of our progress thanks to a refined system of reporting and
data analysis. These systems help us in turning safety and safe behavior into
a way of life - of all our 22,000 employees.
With some 250 sites in 50 countries, DSM is a member of many communities.
Every one of our business groups and units are dedicated to the principles of
good corporate citizenship. We demonstrate our solidarity with the communities
around our sites through many activities, small and not so small, and we are
involved in large-scale projects in developing countries.
In March 2007 DSM announced an official partnership between itself and the
United Nation’s
World Food Programme (WFP). The WFP is the largest provider of food aid to
the world’s hungry. DSM will provide the WFP with expertise, high nutrient
products as well as financial assistance.
