As outlined by Jan Zuidam, Deputy Chairman of the DSM Managing Board and
chairman of the Olympic Steering Committee, there are many commonalities
between sports and the market place in which DSM is operating. “
Sports are not only about competition, ambition, training and focus, but also
about teamwork and, of course, the desire to win. All of these elements apply
to DSM as well. Everyday we face fierce competition and our mission is to be a
top performer in every market in which we compete. As the innovative
Partner in Sports of the Dutch Olympic Committee (
NOC*NSF) we work closely together with sportsmen and women in their quest
for success – and together we help the world of sports move forward. As such
we have a fantastic platform to show the world what we are capable of at DSM
in the fields of nutrition and performance materials.”
Although DSM’s involvement with sport has evolved around the innovation
partnership with the Dutch Olympic Committee, the program has a truly
international character. Elvira Luykx, Director Media Relations & Sponsoring: “
The Innovation is our Sport™ program is not a Dutch affair. Being an
international company, with the majority of its workforce based outside the
Netherlands, this is an international program that is an ideal platform to
show the innovative power of DSM, both externally and internally, and to
create a sense of company pride among our employees worldwide.”
Consequently, national teams have been assembled in key economic regions where
DSM has a sizeable presence and market share, including the Netherlands,
Switzerland, the USA and, last but not least, China, where next year’s Olympic
Summer Games will be held in what is arguably the most exciting, fastest
growing, and most challenging market for internationally operating companies
like DSM.
“China’s economy is catching up at an amazing speed. For more than
100 years the Chinese population has been struggling to re-position China as a
country with both thousands of years of rich history and one that is becoming
the fastest growing and most promising emerging economy”, as Weiming
Jiang, President of DSM China, explains. “The
Beijing Olympics 2008 is more than the greatest sports event in the world;
it is a spectacle of courage, strength, confidence and passion - especially
for our DSM employees in China. With the forthcoming Beijing Olympics, the
eyes of the world are upon China”, For China, the Olympics are a
recognition and presentation of the country’s achievements, the drive to move
forward. DSM has witnessed these changes first hand. “Since DSM
opened its first representative office in Beijing in 1993, we have been
growing at the same fast pace as the country as a whole and are still running
firmly on course. Today we have more than 3,500 employees in China, who are
part of the unlimited world of DSM and striving for our dreams together.”
