DSM Purchasing is a global organization that consists of a central DSM Sourcing structure and a BG Sourcing structure. DSM Sourcing is set up to fully leverage DSM Purchasing spend, resources, capabilities and best practices. DSM Sourcing has regional representation in Europe, America and Asia-Pacific. The BG Sourcing structure is set up for BG-specific spend and multi-BG categories for which the BG acts as ‘lead buyer’ aligned with the DSM Sourcing structure.
DSM Purchasing covers essentially all of DSM’s spend areas:
- (Bio) chemicals
- Petrochemicals & Energy
- Indirect Spend

The Purchasing strategy is based on a Purchasing vision that consists of three main aspects: Operational Excellence through Purchasing effectiveness & efficiency, meaning DSM spend is professionally managed. Alignment to the business, refers to cross-functional collaboration and jointly defining of Purchasing targets and priorities. Last but not least, CPO leadership meaning that under the functional leadership of Chief Purchasing Officer Ton Trommelen DSM intends to realize a worldwide transparency in spend, better sharing of knowledge, stronger leverage and above all, maximum synergy and results.
