Chemical formula: Ar
Chemical name: Argon
Argon
is a colorless, odorless, nonflammable and non corrosive gas, and forms no
known chemical compounds.
It is a small part of the
atmospheric air around us ( approximately 1%). At atmospheric pressure, it
becomes a liquid at -186°C. Although Argon is non-toxic by itself , high
concentrations will reduce the amount of available oxygen in the breathing air
which provides the danger of suffocation.
Argon is widely
used primarily for its properties as an inert gas in many applications. The
other property that sets this gas apart from other inert gases is its high
gravity, which assures an excellent blanketing function.
Argon
is produced as a side product of the ammonia production plants. Since large
amounts of air are used to provide nitrogen and oxygen in the ammonia process,
the Argon present in the air can be captured and purified to the right
specification. The total production capacity is 11,000 ton per year in Geleen.
Argon
is supplied as a cold liquid from our storage tank in Geleen.
