What are fertilizers?

For optimum growth, a plant needs different nutrients:

  • Nitrogen is required for the development of the parts above ground and the formation of protein
  • Phosphate for the growth of its roots
  • Potassium for the flow of sap through the plant
  • Sulphur for the formation of protein

These nutrients the plant can obtain from either organic manure or mineral
fertilizers. For the plant it does not matter in which form these nutrients are
supplied. Plants can only absorb each of the above elements in a specific form.
For example nitrogen is absorbed in the form of nitrate, which also occurs naturally
in the soil.

DSM Agro concentrates on the production of nitrogen fertilizers.
