6Is it possible to have an international career at DSM?

About 65% of DSM's employees work outside the Netherlands and we have more than 200 sites around the world ranging from small sales offices to large production sites. So when you work for DSM, there's a good chance that you'll make contact with people, have business meetings with customers, or attend scientific conferences outside the Netherlands. Furthermore, there are opportunities to be sent abroad for a couple of years, say, to start up a new production plant in Malaysia or run a sales office in Turkey. The better your performance, the greater the chance you have of being offered a position abroad.

7What should I wear to my job interview?

It is customary for people to wear a suit of some kind. Men should wear a two or three-piece suit and tie and women should wear a jacket and skirt or trousers.

By the way — although we appreciate more traditional dress — we encourage informal forms of address. We use first names and Dutch-speakers should feel free to use the "jij form" — the informal case.

8What is the average length of time that people work at DSM?

In general, people have long-standing careers at DSM, and it's something we encourage. We don't take people on for a job; we want to offer them a career. In order to motivate people to stay longer at DSM, we train our staff. We see to it that they get good-quality guidance so they can develop properly. Furthermore, it's entirely possible that, after a number of years, you will find yourself pursuing a completely different discipline than the one you started out with. This, in turn, serves to provide you a whole new set of challenges.
