1. What does MATCH stand for?
MATCH stands for Manufacturing and Technology in Chemistry.

2. What is MATCH?
MATCH is an international Manufacturing and Technology Experience run by DSM and held at exclusive locations in Europe for students from all over Europe.

3. What is a “Manufacturing and Technology Experience”?
A Manufacturing and Technology Experience is a week long workshop and incorporates activities designed to mimic the roles played by employees working within Manufacturing and Technology within the company. Activities besides site visits and presentations include analyzing case studies, solving challenging technological questions, troubleshooting ad-hoc problems, making presentations and participating in team-building and other social events.

4. What is the aim of the MATCH?
For DSM, a central aim is to identify talented young graduates with the skills and enthusiasm to become tomorrow’s managers, directors and board members. For the participants, the Manufacturing and Technology Experience should provide an insight into the inner workings of a large multinational company like DSM.

5. How can a Manufacturing and Technology Experience benefit me as a student?
Over the course of 5 days, several site visits, case studies, presentations and plenty of after-work activities are organised, participants will have a very good understanding of some of the opportunities and challenges facing companies like DSM in the current business environment. Of course, if you fit the profile for DSM then you might just end up with a job offer as well!

6. What kind of company is DSM?
DSM is a large multinational company that is active in the fields of nutritional and pharmaceutical ingredients, performance materials and industrial chemicals. The company develops, produces and sells innovative products and services that help improve our quality of life. The group has annual sales of over €8 billion and employs 23,000 people worldwide, with locations in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas.

7. Why should I be interested in working for DSM?
DSM is a highly diversified and geographically dispersed company, which develops products for a wide range of end-markets and applications, including human and animal nutrition and health, personal care, automotive and transport, coatings & paint, housing and electrics & electronics. Such a broad scope of business operations and geographical locations makes DSM a great choice for anyone interested in a career in manufacturing and/or technology. What’s more, DSM holds a leading position in 75% of the markets it is active in and the group’s new strategy “Vision 2010” is set to maintain the company’s financial strength well into the next decade.

8. When is the sign-up deadline?
The deadline for MATCH has now passed.

9. How is the selection process organised?
After the web application, possible candidates for the MATCH are invited for interviews. The Dutch, Belgium and German (from the Aachen area) students that are selected from the online applications, will be invited to attend one of the two selection days in the Netherlands. The students from other parts of Europe will be invited for interviews as close as possible to their living area.

11. Will I have to pay anything to participate in MATCH 2008?
No, MATCH 2008 will be absolutely free for students. All travel expenses, meals and accommodation for the selection day and the Manufacturing and Technology Experience will be paid by DSM. We’ll even pick up the tab for the party at the end!

12. Will I have to plan anything to participate in MATCH 2008?
No, all planning and organizing will be taken care of by DSM. If you’re selected we’ll send you an information pack with everything you need to know including contact numbers you can call if you have any last minute queries.

13. Where will MATCH 2008 be held?
MATCH 2008 will be held at exclusive locations in Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Naturally, all travel and accommodation will be organized and paid for by DSM.

14. What kind of activities are planned for MATCH 2008?
There will be presentations of starting engineers, site managers of key business units, case studies from each of DSM’s business clusters, site visits, informal dinners, sports … and yes, there will be nights out!

15. Do I need to speak English to participate in the MATCH Manufacturing and Technology Experience?
Yes, a strong grasp of English is essential for the MATCH. If your English isn’t as good as it could be, don’t worry, you still have until May 2008 to practice!

16. Does participating in MATCH give me an advantage when I apply for a job at DSM?
Absolutely. During the week you will meet lots of important and influential people from all levels of the organization and from almost all of the business groups. You will have the chance to show off your skills and even talk to recruitment officers from our corporate HR department. Should you be identified as a potential candidate you will be fasttracked past the en-masse recruitment process and straight into direct discussions with business heads and line managers. Of course, we can’t guarantee a job offer, but if you’re looking for a job at DSM, this is definitely one of the best ways to go about it!

17. Have any previous MATCH participants been hired by DSM?
Of course! Each year a lucky few of the 30 participants are offered permanent positions at DSM.

18. What are DSM looking for in the participants they recruit for the MATCH Manufacturing and Technology Experience?
Enthusiasm, interest and ability are three of the key qualities DSM will be looking out for during the Manufacturing and Technology Experience.

19. Who can apply for MATCH 2008?
DSM is primarily looking for students in the last two years of their Master from the disciplines of Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Bio Process Technology, Food Technology, Life Science and Technology and Chemistry. Students from other disciplines will be considered too if they can demonstrate a genuine interest in Manufacturing and Technology. Students with a economical background should apply to DSM TIME, a business course for Marketing and Economics.

20. Are PhD students also accepted for MATCH?
Yes, PhD students in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Bio Process Technology, Food Technology, Life Science and Technology and Chemistry who will finish their PhD during the next 1.5 years can also apply for MATCH if their interest is in a career in Manufacturing and Technology.

21. When are the selection days going to be held?
There will be two selection days during week 13 of 2008, both in the Netherlands for students from the Netherlands, Belgium and the Aachen area of Germany. Students from other countries will have interviews as close to their living area as possible, during the first three weeks of March.

22. When is MATCH Manufacturing and Technology Experience going to be held?
The MATCH Manufacturing and Technology Experience will be held from the 18th through 23rd of May, 2008.
