1. What is TIME?
TIME is an international business course run
by DSM and held in Switzerland and the Netherlands for students from all over
Europe.
2. What is a “business course”?
A business course
of this kind is usually a few days to a week long and incorporates activities
designed to mimic the roles played by employees within the company. Activities
include analyzing case studies, developing strategies, creating marketing
plans, making presentations and participating in team-building and other
social events.
3. What is the aim of the TIME business course?
For DSM, a
central aim is to identify talented young graduates with the skills and
enthusiasm to become tomorrow’s managers, directors and board members. For the
participants, the business course should provide an insight into the inner
workings of a large multinational B2B company like DSM.
4. How can a business course benefit me as a student?
Over the
course of 6 days, several case studies, marketing plans, presentations and
plenty of after-work activities, participants will have a very good
understanding of some of the opportunities and challenges facing companies
like DSM in the current business environment. Of course, if you fit the
profile for DSM then you might just end up with a job offer as well!

ingredients, performance materials and industrial chemicals. The company
develops, produces and sells innovative products and services that help

8. What is the selection process?
If you are selected from the
online applications, you will be invited to attend one of our selection days.
There will be one selection day held in the Netherlands and one in Switzerland.

10. Will I have to pay anything to participate in TIME 2008?
No, TIME 2008 will be absolutely free for students. All travel expenses, meals
and accommodation for the selection day and the business course will be paid
by DSM. We’ll even pick up the tab for the party at the end!
11. Will I have to plan anything to participate in TIME 2008?
No, all planning and organizing will be taken care of by DSM. If you’re
selected we’ll send you an information pack with everything you need to know
including contact numbers you can call if you have any last minute queries.
12. Where will TIME 2008 be held?
TIME 2008 will be held
jointly in Basel, Switzerland and in various locations in the Netherlands.
Naturally, all travel and accommodation will be organized and paid for by DSM.
13. What kind of activities are planned for TIME 2008?
There
will be presentations from business managers in key business units, case
studies from each of DSM’s business clusters, marketing plans, presentations,
lab visits, informal dinners, sports … and yes, there will be nights out!
14. Do I need to speak English to participate in the TIME business course?
Yes, a strong grasp of English is essential for the TIME business course. If
your English isn’t as good as it could be, don’t worry, you still have until
April 2008 to practice!
15. Does participating in TIME give me an advantage when I apply for a job
at DSM?
Absolutely. During the week you will meet lots of
important and influential people from all levels of the organization and from
almost all of the business groups. You will have the chance to show off your
skills and even talk to recruitment officers from our corporate HR department.
Should you be identified as a potential candidate you will be fasttracked past
the en-masse recruitment process and straight into direct discussions with
business heads and line managers. Of course, we can’t guarantee a job offer,
but if you’re looking for a job at DSM, this is definitely one of the best
ways to go about it!
16. Have any previous TIME participants been hired by DSM?
Of
course! Each year a lucky few of the 20 to 30 participants are offered
permanent positions at DSM.
17. What are DSM looking for in the participants they recruit for the TIME
business course?
Enthusiasm, interest and ability are three of the
key qualities DSM will be looking out for during the business course.
18. Who can apply for TIME 2008?
DSM is primarily looking for
final year Master’s students from the disciplines of Economics, Management and
Business. Students from other disciplines will be considered too if they can
demonstrate a genuine interest in business management. Students with a more
technical or scientific background should apply to DSM
MATCH, a business course for MAnufacturing and Technology in CHemistry.
19. When are the selection days going to be held?
There will be
two selection days, one in the Netherlands and one in Switzerland. Students
from some countries may be selected by phone interview if this is deemed more
convenient. All selection activities will take place in the first two weeks of
March.
20. When is the business course going to be held?
The TIME
business course will be held from the 13th through 18th of April, 2008.
