In 2003 Roche’s Vitamins & Fine Chemicals division introduced a biennial award
in recognition of innovative research in the field of human nutrition. In that
same year the division was taken over by DSM and renamed DSM Nutritional
Products. The award was continued: the
DSM Human Nutrition Award 2005 (carrying a cash prize of €25,000) was won
by Professor Rob M. Russell from Tufts University in Boston (USA).
In 2007 the name of the award was changed to DSM Nutrition Award and the cash
prize was raised to €50,000.
