Candidates

Candidates must be enrolled as PhD students at or have obtained their PhD at a
university in either of the relevant regions.

Candidates should be aged 30 or younger on 1 March 2008 (candidates must have
been born on or after 2 March 1977).
-
Candidates who have already obtained their PhD must not have defended their
PhD thesis before 1 March 2007.

| Research |

The candidate's research must be in one of the following fields:
-
Chemistry (including Biochemistry) - Analytics - Formulation
- Chemical/Process Engineering - Biotechnology - Food
Technology - Nutrition (Human and Animal) - Materials Science
and Technology (including Biomedical Materials)

The candidate's work may cover fundamental or applied research.
-
The research must concern a process, product, applied technology or concept
that is new to experts in the field
-
The research must be clearly linked to potential short-term or long-term
applications, which may or may not be related to DSM’s current activities
-
The research must not be socially or politically controversial
-
The research must be suitable for publication

Nominations
-
Candidates must be nominated by their PhD supervisor (the general rule is one
nomination per supervisor)

Nominations must be made in writing in English
-
Supervisors must submit their nomination by e-mail and attach the following
five items, each in a separate PDF file:
- A summary of the
candidate’s work (max. 5 pages) - A list of all relevant
publications - Copies of the key publications (max. 3 ) in full
length - The candidate’s complete curriculum vitae - A
personal letter of recommendation from the supervisor explaining how the
candidate has met the research criteria listed above and why their work
deserves an Award

Nominations must be received no later than 5 p.m. on 1 March 2008.
Any nominations received after the deadline will be excluded from
participation.
