Nomination and Selection criteria 2010

Candidates

  • Candidates must be enrolled as PhD students (preferably in the final stage) at or have obtained their PhD at a university in either of the relevant regions.
  • Candidates should be younger than 31 years of age on the closing date for nominations.
  • Candidates who have already obtained their PhD must not have defended their PhD thesis before 1 March of the year preceding the year of the award.

Research
  • The candidate's research must be in one of the following fields:
    - Chemistry (including Biochemistry)
    - Analytics
    - Formulation
    - Chemical/Process Engineering
    - Biotechnology
    - Food Technology
    - Nutrition (Human and Animal)
    - Materials Science and Technology (including Biomedical Materials)
  • The candidate's work may cover fundamental or applied research.
  • The research must concern a process, product, applied technology or concept that is new to experts in the field
  • The research must be clearly linked to potential short-term or long-term applications, which may or may not be related to DSM’s current activities
  • The research must not be socially or politically controversial
  • The research must be suitable for publication

Nominations

  • Candidates must be nominated by their PhD supervisor (the general rule is one nomination per supervisor)
  • Nominations must be made in writing in English
  • Supervisors must submit their nomination by e-mail to the contact persons for their respective regions and attach the following five items, each in a separate PDF file:
    - A summary of the candidate’s work (max. 5 pages), preferably written by the candidate
    - A list of all relevant publications, including the impact factor of the journal and/or the number of citations according to Journal Citations Reports
    - Copies of submitted and/or accepted key publications (max. 3 ) in full length
    - The candidate’s complete curriculum vitae
    - A personal letter of recommendation from the supervisor explaining how the candidate has met the research criteria listed above and why their work deserves an Award
  • Nominations must be received no later than 5 p.m. on 1 March 2010. Any nominations received after the deadline will be excluded from participation.
