These are synthetically derived molecules from Penicillin by side chain
cleavage. They are the starting material for producing semi-synthetic
penicillin and cephalosporin molecules. E.g 6-APA derived from penicillin by
cleavage of the side chain, is used for manufacturing of SSPs and 7-ADCA
derived from Cephalosporin side chain cleavage, is used for manufacturing of
SSCs.
