CarboSil® thermoplastic silicone-polycarbonate-urethane

CarboSil® Thermoplastic Silicone Polycarbonate Urethane is a true copolymer containing a synergistic combination of soft segments: silicone and polycarbonate. The hard segments consists of an aromatic diisocyanate with a low molecular weight glycol chain extender.

CarboSil® TSPCU combines the biocompatibility and biostability of conventional silicone elastomers with the processability and toughness of Thermoplastic Polycarbonate Urethane (TPU). The product is available in three hardness grades: 80A, 90A and 55D with various silicone contents. Other hardness grades of silicone content may be custom synthesized and all grades of the polymer are available with various Surface Modifying End Groups (SME®).

Benefits
  • Biostability and biocompatibility
  • In vivo and in vitro stability
  • Excellent mechanical properties
  • Good oxidative stability
  • Hydrophobic
  • Low-energy silicone surface
  • Thromboresistant
  • Available with various Surface Modifying End Groups®
  • FDA Master File

Applications
  • Current applications:
    • Applications where oxidation is a potential mode of degradation, such as in neurovascular and cardiovascular electrostimulation lead insulation and catheters;
    • Orthopedic applications, e.g. spinal, knee and hip.
