In 2006, the Dow Jones’s assessment report on DSM’s sustainability performance
includes the following comment: “Sustainable development at DSM is driven by
the Triple P: People, Planet and Profit approach, which devotes special
attention to corporate governance and risk management, innovation,
occupational health & safety as well as human capital development.” It is a
clear recognition of our performance and transparent reporting in the field of
sustainability. According to the conclusions of the Vision 2010 – Building on
Strengths strategy, DSM will accelerate shift to Life Sciences and Materials
Sciences company and raises growth targets. This shift strongly positions DSM
to meet the needs of tomorrow’s society in areas such as nutrition and health
as well as advanced materials to improve the quality of life and the
environment. In the accelerated Vision 2010 strategy, DSM has doubled its
energy savings target from 1% to 2% per year. DSM initiates a divestment
program for non-core businesses and steps-up search for acquisitions in core
business areas to achieve external growth.
Also in China, DSM commits to the sustainable development. DSM is fully aware
of its responsibility to the environment, the community and our employees in
China. DSM not only abides by Chinese environmental laws and regulations but
also goes extra miles to integrate DSM’s global ‘Triple P’ sustainable
development principle into its daily operations in China. In mid 2008, DSM has
published its first China Sustainability Report. The report is a China
supplement to DSM’s Global Sustainable Development Report, offering more
detailed descriptions of our performance in terms of sustainable development
in China. These China stories, as an indispensable and essential part of the
sustainable development of DSM, illustrate the efforts of DSM to achieve
sustainability in China, and further confirm the long-term commitment of DSM
to sustainable development in China, which is stated in our corporate strategy
“Vision 2010: Building on Strengths”. We would like to encourage more Chinese
companies to join us in engaging in sustainable development with this report,
to share our experience and grow together.
DSM is the member of World Business Council of Sustainable Development, and
actively participated in the implementation of the Responsible Care Program.
In 2006, DSM became a member of the China Business Council for Sustainable
Development. We firmly believe that the sustainable development of a business
is closely tied to the sustainability of the environment and the human race.
DSM cannot be successful in a world that fails. We hope that, through our
efforts, DSM will make contributions to local communities and the whole
planet, while achieving long-term success for itself.
