Polyester Resins for Powder Coatings - Increasing Raw Material Costs
Zwolle,The Netherlands,16 Feb 2004

DSM Coating Resins is notifying the European Polyester Coating Market of the price increases for raw materials used in the manufacture of its polyester resins for powder coatings. Raw material price increases expected for Q2 in addition to those increases already in place for Q1 result in a sharp cost increase for their raw materials. DSM states the main drivers for the increases are rising prices of p-xylene along with increased global demand for PTA, plus increases in the prices of Isophthalic acid and NPG. These products are global products and their price rises have already brought about price increases for polyester resins in North America and Asia. DSM Coating Resins says the combined increases of Q1 and Q2 have a significant impact on its costs and therefore it will increase its prices correspondingly by 8 to 10 eurocents/kg for polyester resin in Europe effective April 1.
