DSM Coating Resins´ Gerben Algra, Global Business Manager Polyesters, announced today prices for its UralacTM range of Liquid Polyester Resins will increase by 9%, from October 20. DSM is a major European supplier of the liquid polyesters used as binders and additives in Industrial Coating systems for Can, Coil, Automotive and general industrial applications. These increases in the prices of resins are necessary due to the price of global feedstock, especially NPG, PTA and solvents, which have been escalating since January of this year. Algra states the increases in feedstock costs have so far not been fully passed onto the market. Despite robust cost cutting initiatives in recent years, declining margins for resins mean such raw material cost increases cannot continue to be absorbed. Algra foresees feedstock prices will continue to increase along with the strong demand.
