DSM NeoResins+, as a leading developer and manufacturer of specialty solvent
based urethanes for the Graphic Arts industry, introduces a new member to its
extensive range of elastomeric solvent based urethanes under the name: NeoRez®
U-471. NeoRez® U-471 is an elastomeric aliphatic (mild) solvent based urethane
suitable for printing using flexographic or gravure printing techniques, on a
wide range of packaging film substrates. This new product is inline with our
environmental philosophy and has been made Tin free and contains a non
aggressive (mild) solvent. In addition to this, its combination of aliphatic
building blocks, excellent pigment wetting coupled with high bond strengths
in packaging film laminates, means this product can be used to formulate inks
which pass sterilisation and pasteurisation treatments. Additional benefits
are that it is non-yellowing and has increased alcohol tolerance compared to
aromatic urethanes. Making it even more desirable for flexographic printing
applications.
The universal nature of elastomeric (mild) solvent based urethane has led to
significant cost savings for printers. This in turn is driving the adoption of
these products in the leading growth market of packaging film laminates. Here
we see traditional technologies like vinylchloride and polyvinyl butyral
resins in decline.
