Tribological properties of Arnite®

Arnite has been selected for a variety of applications where tribological (wear) characteristics are important. PBT displays good resistance to wear loss and has low frictional coefficients, common to most semi-crystalline thermoplastics. However, the outstanding frictional response of polyester to rubbing contact with other materials is what sets PBT apart from other thermoplastics. Real time frictional measurements comparing PA6 to PBT show the excellent frictional consistency . For applications that require smooth actuation as well as low overall frictional effort, PBT polyester is an outstanding engineering material. Arnite PET is used in a variety of applications where extreme wear requirements exists, e.g. where the static friction coefficient should be as low as the dynamic one.

Frictional noise (change in dynamic co-efficient of friction) with time for Arnite vs. PA66

The graph shows the change in the dynamic co-efficient of friction with time for Arnite and PA66. As is demonstrated, the co-efficient of friction for PA66 fluctuates over a wide range (noise) compared with Arnite. Arnite is superior to PA66 for applications where low and stable co-efficient of friction is required over extensive durations of time, often through the entire life of the application.
