Technically speaking, caprolactam is a chemical compound (C6H11NO), consisting of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and hydrogen.
It is made using either cyclohexane or phenol in a technologically sophisticated process. The product is either stored and transported in molten form or as solid flakes.
Caprolactam is mostly polymerised to Nylon-6 polymer for a large variety of fibres, engineering plastics and films.
