TAS process

Ammonium sulphate is a by-product of the production of caprolactam and at DSM it is derived from two separate caprolactam processes:

  • HSO (Hydroxylamine Sulphatecyclohexanone Oxime)
  • HPO (Hydroxylamine Phosphatecyclohexanone Oxime)

The by-product from these processes is in aqueous solution and is used as the raw material in the "Sulfa Operations". During the "Sulfa Operations" this aqueous solution will be processed into solid crystallised ammonium sulphate.

Via a purification process of crystallisation, filtration, spin-drying and finally drying and cooling, a clear white, highly pure technical ammonium sulphate is produced.

In comparison to °fertilizer grades°, the TAS process consists of several additional processing steps. TAS is produced separately from °fertiliser grades° using a dedicated production line.

The end-product is constantly monitored and analysed on purity, colour, heavy metals and free acidity.
