Plasticoat®. The smart choice for cheese coating.
-
Plasticoat® is a cheesecoating that consists of a copolymer emulsion of vinyl
acetate and Delvocid® and water soluble food grade colours.
-
Plasticoat® protects the cheese against physical damage and mould growth, acts
as a water barrier (and as such prevents weightloss) and provides an
attractive presentation of the final product.
-
Plasticoat® coatings are semi-permeable to moisture, oxygen and carbon dioxide
and thus do not inhibit the cheese ripening process.
-
Plasticoat® is supplied in various viscosities and can be coated by hand or
using a plastifying machine. Plasticoat® is particularly suitable for Northern
European cheeses such as Gouda, Edam, Maaslander and Jarlsberg.
Regulatory Status ( Last update december 2006)
Cheese coatings are regulated according to specific regulations in the
Netherlands, Germany, France and Switzerland. For other countries DSM is also
referring on the safety of their products to the Food Contact Materials
Legislation 2002/72/EC and amendments. Also for some countries a specific
brand approval is needed.
It is important always to consult the Regulatory Department on specific
formulations for the legal status in a country.
