Proteomics

Proteomics is a very powerful tool in Genomics. It is complementary to the DNA-arrays, providing information on expression profiles on the protein level. DSM currently has in house an advanced operational proteomics infrastructure, not only focused on the identification of the primary structure of the protein but also on identification of post-translational modifications like glycosylation.

Proteomics: Protein Identification

Proteomics expands the genomics approach to those organisms for which no substantial genomic information is available. In this respect the technique is more than complementary to the DNA arrays. For technology development, DSM collaborates with the group of Prof. A. Heck at the University of Utrecht. Proteomics has already proven to be a powerful tool in, for example, providing sequence tags for gene fishing and the analysis of fermentation samples from production processes.
