Maxilact®[1], a world standard lactase enzyme, has won the 2009 Ringier
Technology Innovation Award – confirming its industry-wide recognition as an
effective, market leading product. The prestigious award, coordinated by
market leading publishing house Ringier and judged by an independent panel of
industry professionals, was presented to Maxilact to honour its technical
excellence and significant technological contribution to the Chinese food and
beverage industry. As the second consecutive win for DSM Food Specialties in
these international awards, the news also further reinforces the company’s
position as a major contributor to the advancement of the food and beverage
industry through innovation.
Maxilact is a purified lactase preparation, isolated from the dairy yeast
Kluyveromyces lactis. It hydrolyses lactose into glucose and galactose
(digestible sugars) for people who are lactose intolerant. This pure lactase
enzyme is free from unwanted side activities associated with off flavour
formation. Low lactose and lactose free products containing Maxilact
therefore benefit from a clean taste, plus offer all the nutritional benefits
of their standard equivalents. Maxilact has over 30 years history in dairy
products all over the world and is used in milk, yoghurts, yoghurt drinks, ice
cream and a wide range of other products containing lactose.
Commenting on the win, Ardy van Erp, Product Manager Dairy Enzymes, DSM Food
Specialties, said: “We are delighted to receive this award, which is positive
recognition of the functional and commercial benefits of Maxilact. With a
growing global demand for low lactose and lactose free products, we are very
proud to introduce Maxilact to the Chinese dairy market and make healthy dairy
products accessible for consumers who have problems with lactose digestion.
Maxilact enables manufacturers to capitalise on the low lactose trend and
still be confident of producing a great tasting, quality product.
“Our understanding of customer needs and market insight were important factors
in our entry. The award win is sure to strengthen Maxilact’s profile with
dairy manufacturers and we are confident of its continued success.”
