Instead of mixing the coloring agent inside the plastic pellets in an extrusion step, DSM’s Pellet Coating Technology involves the application of a thin coating to the pellet. This coating may have one or more properties, i.e. it may be colored, or may contain a UV-stabilizer or an antimicrobial agent. The unprocessed pellets are poured into a large blender and the paste displaying the required properties is added. By mixing the pellets with the paste, each pellet is coated with a thin layer having the desired properties. When the pellets are processed to form products, the properties will be uniformly incorporated in the end products.
