Wood-based panels

Oriented Strand Board (OSB)

OSB is manufactured using wood strands up to 10 cm long and 2 cm wide that are oriented in layers and glued together.

OSB is a fairly recent type of wood-based panel, and was first introduced in the USA. Production volume in Europe is growing, since the wood-based panel industry is highly innovative in finding new applications.

Typical OSB applications include:
- Construction panels
- Plywood substitutes

Melamine in OSB

Creating cost-effective alternatives like a melamine-based resin for OSB, for example, is one area of innovation from the DSM Melamine Skill Center and DSM Research, who collaborated on a solution that strengthens OSB’s position as the fastest growing panel application in the world.

Sustainable product
MelaminebyDSM™ helps to conserve hardwood and natural forests by enabling the effective use of wood waste and fast-growing softwood in boards and panels. See also Sustainability.
