On 7 June 2009 hundreds of thousands of people in 70 countries walked 5
kilometers to raise additional funds for the World Food Programme’s (WFP)
School Feeding Program. This walk represents the average distance a child in
developing countries walks to school on an empty stomach.
On behalf of the WFP, in the Netherlands DSM, TNT and Unilever organized
Walk the World 2009 as corporate partners. DSM employees also actively
participated in various other countries such as the US and Indonesia (see
picture hereunder).
The objectives of the global ‘Fight Hunger: Walk the World’ event are to
increase awareness of child hunger and malnutrition. The walk started in 2003
as an Asian regional TNT employee fundraising activity, and has since grown
into the world’s largest annual global fundraising event that involves DSM,
TNT, Unilever and WFP employees, their families/friends, other corporate
partners, humanitarian institutions, and civil organizations.
