DSM Nutritional Products announces a global price increase for Vitamin D3. The increase is effective for all qualities marketed in the human nutrition industry and will amount to a minimum of 10%. The price increase is necessary due to higher costs of raw materials, energy and transportation and due to higher demand for DSM quality vitamins. The price increase is effective immediately and all existing contracts will be honored.

A new study published in the European Journal of Nutrition2 confirms that DSM Nutritional Products’ weight management ingredient Fabuless exerts beneficial effects, even under weight
loss conditions. Subjects taking the natural, vegetable oil derived supplement experienced a higher reduction in body fat mass than those who took a dairy fat control. The findings
complement those of a previous long -term study which demonstrated that Fabuless helps to minimize weight regain after dieting. With the global weight loss market projected to exceed

Royal DSM N.V., the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company headquartered in the Netherlands, has continued its number one position in the chemical industry sector in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index*. This was announced today in a press statement issued by SAM* and Dow Jones Indexes. After the initial publication of the 2010 sustainability scores in September 2010, SAM identified an issue in the software used to evaluate the results of the Corporate Sustainability Assessments and announced a reassessment of the 2010 scores. This review has now been completed.

DSM Nutritional Products is pleased to confirm that the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has issued positive opinions on the beneficial effects of DHA and EPA, 2 essential Omega 3 Long Chain Polyununsaturated Fatty Acids (LC-PUFA’s). EFSA’s opinion supports the scientific evidence on the beneficial effects of DHA and/or EPA on brain health, heart health and vision, which are all health benefit areas with increasing importance to Europe’s ageing population. Health claims for DHA and EPA were submitted through EU Member States. DSM helped prepare several such submissions which included a reference list of supporting scientific evidence for the claim.

Members of the Zeaxanthin Trade Association have adopted and published a common chiral analytical method to measure the relative percentages of the different Zeaxanthin stereoisomers — (3R,3’R), (3R,3’S) and (3S,3’S) — in dietary ingredients and finished product forms of dietary supplements. The method will help dietary supplement and food manufacturers make sure that no zeaxanthin isomers other than the 3R 3’R are present in the zeaxanthin they source for their finished products, and make sure they are in compliance with GMP standards and FDA and EU regulations.

During the Second World Congress of Public Health Nutrition held in Portugal last week, several new and pending studies were presented that show clear evidence that poor nutrition is growing in affluent countries, despite widespread consumer access to nutritious foods and nutritional education campaigns. DSM organized a forum at the Congress to discuss this critical health issue and an area where DSM has been active in developing a variety of nutritional products.
