Operational Excellence

An important part of our strategic approach is linked to the integration of Citrique Belge
within DSM Nutritional Products (DNP)and DSM as a whole.
The core of the integration process is the Operational Excellence programme, which casts all work processes into best practice, according to the state-of-the-art process methodology. This is to say that our integral business system, including the use of the installations, maintenance, supply of the finished goods, administration, is standardised on the basis of the best practice holding within the DSM context.

Manufacturing Excellence (Manufex)

The Operational Excellence part that has to do with Production we call Manufex.
The objective is to optimise the production process, by undertaking only the actions that can be shown to be cost-efficient.
This structured and synchronised approach has great advantages. For instance, within DSM worldwide the same hardware and software programmes are used. This enables everyone to communicate on-line and allows experience and improvement possibilities to be at once applied integrally within each DSM unit.

Manufex thus leads to the emergence of efficient production and work chains. Each member of staff is an integral link in the total process. But we are aware that discipline is required to stick to well-defined procedures and rules, especially if they differ from the way people used to work in the past. Hence, the introduction of Manufex is certain to result in a different attitude and mind-set.

On the other hand, if this discipline is adopted we will be able to do the right things at the right time in one go, which will cause less problems. We will not have to spend time on such problems, which offers us time and space to check actively from the perspective of our own role and workplace how extra added value can be added to the business process. This gives the senior and line management an encouraging and coaching task.
