Properties

Choline is the common name for the compound 2-hydroxy-N,N,N-trimethylethyl ammonium. Pure choline is a colorless, viscous, strongly alkaline liquid that is notably hygroscopic. The chloride salt of this compound, choline chloride, exists as deliquescent white crystals that are highly soluble in water and alcohols. Aqueous solutions are almost pH neutral.
