Zeaxanthin is a naturally occurring carotenoid that can be found in a variety of vegetables and fruits, including corn, squash, peas, cabbage, peppers, oranges, kiwis, and grapes. Of the more than 600 carotenoids found in nature, zeaxanthin is one of only two carotenoids (along with lutein) located in the macula as well as the lens of the eye.
Scientific evidence suggests that zeaxanthin and lutein play beneficial roles in maintaining eye health and may reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration and cataracts. Growing scientific evidence suggests that zeaxanthin and lutein are complementary to each other, but not identical in form or function. Several studies indicate that the optimal dietary intake ratio of zeaxanthin to lutein is an average of 1 part zeaxanthin to 5 parts lutein. Based on the evidence, the optimal eye health supplement should contain this ratio.
Identical to the zeaxanthin found in nature and proven to be safe, OPTISHARP® Zeaxanthin has undergone the FDA’s rigorous 75-day notification process and represents the ideal companion to lutein in eye health formulations.
