DSM products for oral care

Daily tooth brushing is important but often not enough to prevent caries, gingivitis and periodontitis. The main cause of dental problems are bacterial infections. Traditional tooth paste formulations use rather strong anti-bacterial agents which are not always well accepted by consumers.

Products for Oral Care
DSM Nutritional Poducts can offer our customers in the cosmetic industry technically superior new ingredients for oral care.

Green tea – traditionally known to preserve oral health

In Japan and other parts of Asia a cup of green tea after meals is a traditional habit. People believed that regular drinking of green tea would prevent tooth decay. Recent scientific data demonstrate that the catechin fraction of green tea, which mostly consists of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), plays an important role in the preservation of healthy teeth and gums and prevention of oral diseases including dental cavities and gingivitis.

TEAVIGO™ – natural and pure
With its patented, highly sophisticated purification technology, DSM Nutritional Products extracts EGCG from green tea, leading to a natural compound with a purity of 95% – TEAVIGO™.

TEAVIGO™ is a potent active ingredient with three areas of activity in oral care:

• Anti-plaque / anti-caries

• Anti-gingivitis

• Combats bad breath

STAY-C® 50 – Support of healthy teeth and gum

In spite of more regular tooth brushing, plaque formation and caries or gum bleeding and gingivitis have remained a problem for many consumers. In both cases, bacteria are strongly involved. Studies have shown that STAY-C® 50 is able to suppress the growth of several bacteria associated with caries or gingivitis. STAY-C® 50 inhibits the growth of Streptococcus mutans , the principle causative bacterium of caries. Similar efficacy was also seen against Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans and Porphyromas gingivalis, two bacteria associated with gingivitis.
