A client needed to reduce the cost of a key ingredient used in a class of anti-hyper cholesterolemic agents. DPC developed and implemented a breakthrough biocatalysis process utilizing an enzymatic step.
Three molecules of an inexpensive, readily-available non-chiral precursor molecules were coupled by a single enzyme, resulting in the one-step formation of an intermediate with two chiral centers. Subsequent chemical steps were developed, leading to the most-cost effective route to this advanced intermediate.
