A client required an enantiomerically-pure secondary alcohol. They had developed a process involving a costly polishing step which had potential Intellectual Property issues associated with it. They approached us about improving the process.
We applied our Dynamic Kinetic Resolution technology to the problem. This involves a stereoselective enzymatic resolution of the desired enantiomer with simultaneous racemization of the unwanted one.
Our new technology resulted in multi-ton production at a cost reduction in excess of 25%. A specific Intellectual Property position was transferred to the client.
