DSM has over 100 years of experience in fermentation-based technologies. These have been developed for a large variety of microorganisms and for a multitude of products ranging from complex metabolites (e.g. anti-infectives) to bioactive proteins (enzymes, pharmaceutical proteins).

Our value is in custom development and manufacturing services relating to microbial fermentation. We offer fermentation and associated product recovery and purification infrastructure. Our main production site is a multi-purpose facility in Capua, Italy that currently produces both pharmaceutical APIs (excluding beta-lactams antibiotics) and food / nutrition-related products.
