It has been determined that for optimal RHOBUST® performance the adsorbent density should be in the range of at least 2.5-3.5g/ml in order to achieve a high degree of bed stability and a minimum degree of expansion.
This high bead density has been achieved by the addition of tungsten carbide particles (d= 16 kg/L), which are encapsulated within the agarose beads.
The tungsten carbide occupies approximately 10-15% of the volume of the bead. The beads are retained in the column by their own weight, even at the high flow rates needed for commercial processing.
