Column Design

RHOBUST® columns have been optimized for:

  • Simplicity
  • Cleanability
  • Low pressure operability

Column design combines a unique dual-pump system that facilitates high-throughput, sensitive flow control and prevents build-up of backpressure.
The column also includes a state-of-the-art distribution system that helps to maintain steady flow and prevents clogging.

In contrast to packed bed columns there are no problems associated with frequent changes of temperature from +4 degrees Celsius to +60 degrees. Any air released in the system during such changes simply leaves the column without disturbing the process.

 

 

 
Distribution System
A stable expanded bed requires a good flow distribution and also an open system to avoid blocking.

The rotating fluid distribution system consists of large diameter holes to effectively avoid clogging of the inlet and secure efficient mixing at the bottom. The gentle stirring leads to a non turbulent flow through-out the expanded bed. The technology also uses large diameter inlet and outlet systems, effectively eliminating the well known clogging problem experienced with packed bed designs. This "open" system effectively eliminates the risk of clogging while an efficient adsorption is maintained in the entire expanded bed.
