DSM recently celebrated being awarded the North Carolina International Community and Economic Development Award, an award given by the N.C. Department of Commerce in recognition of the important civic and philanthropic contributions made by foreign-owned businesses. During the celebration, and to honor the hard work of employees who volunteer their time for community service, DSM donated $500 each to the ALS Association North Carolina Chapter, Habitat for Humanity of Pitt County, PC Stars after school program, and the Greenville Community Shelter.

During the celebration, Jimmy Garris, representing the Pitt County Board of Commissioners, presented a plaque to Terry Novak, President, DSM Pharmaceuticals Inc. “We are very pleased to have you here and growing here.” said Garris.

"We are honored to receive this award and to be able to give back to the communities in which we live and work." commented Terry Novak, President, DSM Pharmaceuticals Inc.

The celebration event was held at the DSM Greenville, NC site on December 19, 2007. Approximately 40 DSM employees attended, the Greenville Mayor, Pat Dunn, Susanne Sartelle, President of the Greenville- Pitt County Chamber of Commerce, and Wanda Yuhas, Executive Director, Pitt County Development Commission were in attendance as well.

The DSM Greenville site, including both DSM Pharmaceuticals Inc. and DSM Dyneema currently employs over 1200 people. The site is very involved in supporting the local community in two very important issues- education and health. DSM's good corporate citizenship was also recognized in 2007 by the Pitt County Development Commission who named the facility Pitt County Industry of the Year.
