DSM Pharmaceutical Products today announced that they will join the Green
Chemistry Institute® Pharmaceutical Roundtable (Roundtable) of the American
Chemical Society (ACS) as an associate member. The Pharmaceutical Roundtable
is a partnership between the ACS Green Chemistry Institute® and pharmaceutical
companies. The roundtable was founded in 2005 to promote sustainable
manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) by integrating the
principles of green chemistry and engineering into drug discovery and
manufacturing. Recently it was decided that companies which are significantly
engaged in research and development or manufacturing of intermediates and APIs
for the pharmaceutical industry could apply for membership. DSM
Pharmaceutical Products is the first such company to join the Roundtable.
Bob Hartmayer, president & CEO of the DSM Pharmaceutical Products business
group, commented, “I am proud that DSM’s ambition to play in the top league of
sustainable manufacturers is recognized by the Roundtable members. It
stimulates us to continue to work with our customers towards new and green
synthetic routes for API synthesis; to be the first supplier company to join
this roundtable is a real honor”.
Bob Peoples, director of the ACS Green Chemistry Institute®, comments: “The
addition of DSM as our first associate member is a significant development in
the expansion of the ACS GCI Pharmaceutical Roundtable. We look forward to
working with DSM who brings complementary expertise to support the mission of
the Roundtable and will further leverage the excellent work of this dedicated
group of leading pharmaceutical companies.”
