The European leisure boat building industry has enjoyed significant and sustained growth over recent years and remains very positive for the future. Quality is the key to success and when it comes to the best technology, products and technical support, DSM delivers.

Whether you are a small producer of specialist yachts or an international ship yard, you can count on DSM Composite Resins to provide the same dedicated support and fit-for-purpose product solutions. We are more than just a supplier, we’re a partner.

European leadership
Part of the performance materials cluster of the international DSM group, DSM Composite Resins, is the largest producer of structural resins in Europe and a technology leader. We are also a leader in gelcoats and in the distribution of GRP materials and ancillaries through our pan-European Euroresins business.

Growing with your needs
Within our customer portfolio are some of the largest and most prestigious names in the European boatbuilding market, down to small specialist companies. Although our relationships with customers often go back many decades, we never take the importance of these partnerships for granted. After all, our customers expect us to keep one step ahead, to innovate new products and processes, to advise on up-coming standards and regulations and to help them produce more effectively and more efficiently. So whether customers are large or small, DSM delivers services and solutions that help you succeed.

Research and Development
Our Marine Competence Centre in Zwolle, the Netherlands, is part of a European network of similar hubs of expertise that focus on an end-use segment or particular processing method. Together, they represent a strong know-how base for new developments and added value services for the benefit of our customers. In the Marine Competence Centre we use the latest equipment to develop next generation resins and gelcoats with improved physical, mechanical and environmental properties, without compromising ease of handling and processing. Developments are often made in close cooperation with customers to solve their specific requirements.

Meeting the Standards
DSM Composite Resins is actively working with numerous industry committees towards regulatory harmonisation and the establishment of common EU standards. Within the marine industry, the most important specifying authorities are the Lloyds Register of Shipping, Det Norske Veritas and RINA. All of the our marine grade resins, gelcoats and bonding pastes are either already approved, or are in the process of being approved to one or more of these standards. The certification process normally involves the independent testing of sample laminates for water absorption, flexural strength and modulus, elongation at break, heat distortion temperature and hardness. Only after the rigorous testing programme is complete can the product be classified as being suitable for marine structures.
