Royal DSM N.V., the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company, today announces the intention to close its composite resins facility in Ellesmere Port (United Kingdom) to preserve the competitiveness of DSM Composite Resins in Europe. DSM is committed to implement the closure, which will be effective from the end of 2012, in a socially responsible manner for its 45 employees.

The new facility will be among the largest manufacturing plants for composite resins in the world. DSM Composite Resins, a global leader in Unsaturated Polyester Resins (UPR), is increasing the price of its complete UPR resin portfolio by 100 EUR/ton with immediate effect.

DSM has introduced its latest composite resin – Atlac® 5200 FC - developed specifically for use in composite applications that have contact with food and water.  Officially launched at last week's JEC show1 in Paris, this new vinyl ester resin is unique in that it is fully compliant with the European regulations on food contact and made in line with commonly accepted Good Manufacturing Practices for the Food Industry. The resin is therefore suitable for use in a variety of composite applications such as tanks and pipes that are intended for contact with food and potable water.

DSM Composite Resins, a global leader in Unsaturated Polyester Resins (UPR), is increasing the price of its complete UPR resin portfolio and Neoxil® Sizings & Binders by 150 EUR/ton with effect of March 1, 2011. For specific resin, the increase will be higher than the latter, depending on the availability of the raw material.
