Elgin,IL,USA,03/05/2003

DSM Desotech, a world leader in the development and supply of UV-curable materials, has earned  ISO 14001 certification for their sales and manufacturing facility in Hoek van Holland, the Netherlands.

ISO 14001 is a worldwide standard marking the successful implementation of a comprehensive Environmental Management System (EMS).  To receive the certification, Desotech's Hoek van Holland site has developed an EMS that successfully encompasses a series of environmental specifications including:

•  A formal environmental policy including objectives and targets, as well as plans for meeting those objectives.

•  An environmental emergency plan.

•  An evaluation of suppliers' goods and services with regard to environmental impacts.

•  Identification of all regulatory requirements and an evaluation of compliance.

•  Implementation of effective training, communication and documentation pertaining to environmental standards.

"We are pleased to be among the first chemical companies in Europe to receive ISO 14001 certification," says DSM Desotech President Jan Paul de Vries.  "It is just one of the ways DSM Desotech continues to demonstrate our commitment to good product stewardship and to DSM's overall global commitment to Sustainable Entrepreneurship."

DSM Desotech is a business unit of DSM N.V.,a world leader in the fields of chemicals, performance materials and life science products (www.dsm.com).  Headquartered in the Netherlands, DSM is a multi-billion dollar company employing more than 20,000 people across 200 sites worldwide.  It is ranked among today's leading chemical companies.

In 2000, DSM began turning its attention to the public's growing need for more transparent information about the chemical industry and its contribution to public welfare, health and a sustainable environment.  In 2001, it adopted the "Triple P" approach— People, Planet, Profit—which focuses on the role of sustainability in the social, ecological and economic aspects of DSM's global business.

"The 3P approach means a commitment to the responsible care of our employees, our customers, consumers and the environment, and to ensuring the continued success of our company," says de Vries.  "It is a policy that will be increasingly interwoven with all of our future business activities."
