Cordages

Dyneema® is ideal for high-performance cordage applications for sports and leisure activities. Successful applications include bow strings, fishing,   parapenting and kite lines. The Dyneema® grades used for cordages are SK60, SK65 and SK75.

Cordages
Maximum strength, minimum diameter

Fishing lines made with Dyneema® are four to five times thinner than equivalent-strength nylon monofilament, reducing resistance in flowing water. The extremely low elongation of Dyneema® ensures greater control, sensitivity and consistent performance. Dyneema® fibers can be used in braids for parapenting lines with a diameter of only 0.3 mm. For kite lines, this slim diameter minimizes wind resistance.

Exceptional reliability

Cordages made with Dyneema® are not negatively affected by water or temperature changes. They can withstand high-load strain rate velocities, and have very good folding, bending, abrasion and UV light resistance. Angling lines do not kink or retain the shape of the spool and because the lines are smooth, twisted kite lines do not bind. Bow strings made with Dyneema® have excellent vibration damping. Braided fishing lines made with Dyneema® have a specific density of slightly less than one and thereby float on water.

Processing requirements

Bow strings with virtually no creep under extremely high loads can be created by blending Dyneema® with Vectran. However, the resulting material does fray after moderate use and is slower than a 100% Dyneema® string. For sinking fishing lines, Dyneema® can be blended with other fibers, such as aramid or polyester, to increase overall density.

Kite lines made with pure Dyneema® should be sleeved wherever they are knotted to preserve their strength.

Technical and commercial support

Our expert application engineers and state-of-the-art Technicum laboratory are available to support you in identifying, developing or processing the best cordage application made with Dyneema® for you, based on your needs and our extensive research. We are also able to conduct a system cost analysis for almost all applications, helping you to identify the benefits of Dyneema® for your business.
